450 million years ago, the first plants left aquatic life. Researchers from the CNRS and the University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, in collaboration with INRAE, have succeeded in demonstrating that this conquest of dry land by plants was made possible thanks to a partnership between plants and fungi: validating this 40-year-old hypothesis helps us to understand an essential stage in the development of life on Earth. The imaging platform of the FR AIB / TRI-Genotoul, closely involved in this study published in the journal Science, features on the magazine's cover.
