Research work carried out in several laboratories has led to the development of microscopes using light-sheet excitation, also known as SPIM (Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy). This technique allows for rapid, three-dimensional and deep optical sectioning for the observation of living matter.
Following the same principle, the MacroSPIM, based on light-sheet excitation and developed with the support of the IRB, enables the visualisation – following clearing – of tissues, organoids and entire organs via rapid optical sectioning, also in 3D and in depth. The fields of application are extremely numerous and concern both animal and plant subjects.
