SPIM and Macro-SPIM are light-sheet microscopes enabling 3D and deep live imaging with low phototoxicity.

Using SPIM, cells undergoing mitosis within spheroids were able to be visualised and then reconstructed in 3D. The MacroSPIM, meanwhile intended for larger samples, on the centimetre scale, has allowed true 3D immersion within organs such as the intestine.
