As part of the REACT-EU European funding, via the OCCSIGEN* project managed by GenoToul, a new light-sheet microscope has been installed to reinforce the imaging platform of RESTORE / TRI-Genoutoul.
Open to the entire scientific, academic and private community, the Light Sheet Z7 marketed by Zeiss enables 3D imaging of both live and fixed or cleared samples.
Technology in detail
Light sheet fluorescence microscopy is an optical sectioning microscopy technique. Using a sheet of light, it illuminates an entire plane of the sample, including deep within it. Combining these acquisitions allows a 3D image of the sample to be reconstructed. The fluorescence emitted by the sample is detected at 90° relative to the illumination plane.
Advantages of this technology:
- Deep visualisation of large samples (up to 1cm in diameter)
- Reduction of Photobleaching and Phototoxicity
- Speed of acquisition: for live samples, the ability to image 2 channels simultaneously.
