On 11 March, the two imaging centres in Bordeaux and Toulouse collaborated to organise a mini-symposium dedicated to machine learning. «Artificial intelligence», «machine learning» and «deep learning» are terms that are increasingly used, but what do they actually mean?
More than 130 participants from all over France gathered in Toulouse to find answers to these questions relating to their field of expertise, imaging. Thanks to the 9 international speakers, participants were able to understand the possibilities offered by these new methods, from how to apply them to microscopic data to their specific drawbacks. A more private event took place on 12 March: thanks to Dominik Kutra, developer of the ilastik software, 16 facility members were trained in the use of this software, facilitating amongst other things the image segmentation process using the Random Forest approach. During this «train the trainers» session, 12 colleagues were also able to follow this training remotely.
