Taking place over 4 and a half days, this intensive event will combine lectures (limited to 10 trainees), practical sessions (in sub-groups of a maximum of 4 people with one or two instructors) and will be interspersed with exercises designed to support trainees in their progress.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">OBJECTIVES<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Gain theoretical foundations in light and electron microscopy, cytometry and data analysis,<\/li>\n<li>Know the possible applications for each technology,<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the practical aspect of these methods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">PUBLIC &amp; MODALITIES<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Public<\/strong> Researchers, engineers and technicians wishing to discover all of these technologies<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prerequisite:<\/strong> None, except for a clearly stated interest in in vivo optical imaging<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Staff numbers:<\/strong> Maximum of 10 trainees, practical sessions in sub-groups of maximum 4 trainees with 1 instructor per sub-group<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Evaluation:<\/strong> Throughout the training, practical exercises with solutions will allow the trainee to assess their acquisition of knowledge. Trainees' learning outcomes will be assessed at the end of the training and a training certificate will be issued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">PROGRAMME<\/h3>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course will emphasise the basic knowledge required to understand the different techniques and potential applications. Practical work will demonstrate the advantages and limitations of the various systems.<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Flow cytometry: principles, components of a cytometer, fluorescence and imaging flow cytometry<\/li>\n<li>Applications in flow cytometry: cell cycle, apoptosis, phenotyping, cell interaction, imaging flow cytometry, cytokine assay, metabolic probes, cell sorting<\/li>\n<li>Microscopy: the different types of light microscopy (bright-field, phase contrast, fluorescence?)<\/li>\n<li>Fluorescence microscopy: labelling, biosensors and applications<\/li>\n<li>The sample under the microscope: light\/sample interaction and sample preparation<\/li>\n<li>The different types of fluorescence microscopes: performance, advantages and disadvantages<\/li>\n<li>Overview of sample preparation methods for transmission electron microscopy (TEM)<\/li>\n<li>Understand the basic principles of transmission electron microscopes<\/li>\n<li>Principles of scanning electron microscopes (SEM)<\/li>\n<li>SEM sample preparation<\/li>\n<li>Overview of data analysis<\/li>\n<li>Application to image analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">EQUIPMENT &amp; PERSONNEL<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Widefield, confocal, multiphoton and light-sheet microscopes, cytometers analysers, sorters, cytometers imaging, transmission electron microscopes and scanning electron microscopes,<\/li>\n<li>Engineers from the following research institutes: Agrobiosciences, Interactions and Biodiversity Research Federation; Biology and This intensive four-and-a-half-day event will combine lectures (limited to 10 participants), practical sessions (in sub-groups of up to four people with one or two instructors) and will be interspersed with exercises designed to support participants\u2019 progress.\n \nOBJECTIVES\n     To acquire a theoretical foundation in photonic and electron microscopy, cytometry and data analysis,\n     To understand the possible applications of each technology,\n \tTo understand the practical aspects of these methods\nTARGET AUDIENCE &amp; DETAILS\n     Target audience: Researchers, engineers and technicians wishing to explore all of these technologies\n     Prerequisites: None, other than a clear interest in optical imaging of living organisms\n \tGroup size: Maximum of 10 participants; practical sessions in sub-groups of up to 4 participants with 1 instructor per sub-group\n     Assessment: Throughout the course, marked exercises will enable participants to assess their acquisition of knowledge. Trainees\u2019 learning outcomes will be assessed at the end of the course and a certificate of completion will be issued.\nPROGRAMME\nThe course will focus on the basic knowledge required to understand the various techniques and their potential applications.
